Unauthenticated code execution via NFSv4 ACL handling
Published Aug 9, 2022 · Updated May 29, 2025
Code injection in Microsoft Windows Server 2022 before 10.0.20348.887 allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted NFSv4 ACL attributes. The nfssvr.sys Nfs4SrvAclBuildWindowsAclsFromNfsAcl routine passes a derived destination to memset while converting attacker-controlled ACL data. Exploitation requires Server for NFS to be enabled and reachable; the public packet capture demonstrates a kernel crash, while Microsoft identifies code execution as the impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
