Kernel memory disclosure via unchecked registry index
Published Aug 9, 2022 · Updated May 29, 2025
Information disclosure in Microsoft Windows allows local users to read kernel memory by loading a crafted registry hive. CmpValidateHiveSecurityDescriptors fails to validate the root _CM_KEY_SECURITY.Blink cell index before the kernel uses the attacker-controlled value for an invalid read or write. A low-privileged local account can load an application hive without special privileges; the documented impact is disclosure, not integrity loss or service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
