CVE-2022-3466

Privilege escalation via restored inheritable capabilities

Published Sep 15, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in CRI-O on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.12 allows local users to gain permitted file capabilities. The regressed CRI-O build starts containers with nonempty inheritable capability sets, so execve promotes matching file capabilities into the permitted set. Exploitation requires local access to execute a program carrying inheritable file capabilities, and the resulting process gains those capabilities.
