CVE-2022-34636Public exploit

Service interruption via misclassified address-translation exception

Published Jul 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper exception handling in CVA6 and BOOM allows local users to interrupt service through a malformed page-table entry. During a page-table walk, the cores treat a physical-memory-attribute violation on an invalid non-leaf page-table entry as a store page fault instead of the required store access fault. Reaching the defect requires local low-privileged control of a page-table entry; the published assessment limits the consequence to availability loss.
