Interpreter crash via malformed dereference expression
Published Jul 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in PicoC 3.2.2 allows local users to crash the interpreter by executing a crafted source file. While evaluating the malformed **4%; expression, variable.c dereferences a null pointer without checking it, causing an immediate segmentation fault. Exploitation requires a user or consuming application to submit the crafted program for interpretation, and the resulting impact is limited to interruption of that PicoC process.
