Process crash via unchecked codec-specific TIFF tags
Published Jul 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in LibTIFF 4.4.0 allows remote attackers to crash tiffsplit or tiffcrop by supplying a crafted TIFF file. _TIFFCheckFieldIsValidForCodec accepts codec-specific tags when their codec is unavailable, letting _TIFFVGetField write four bytes into a two-byte stack variable. The file must be processed by one of the utilities; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash rather than data disclosure or modification.
