Administrator account creation via unchecked AJAX option write
Published Nov 7, 2022 · Updated May 1, 2025
Missing authorization in Product Stock Manager for WooCommerce before 1.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to alter site options. The af_sm_set_checkbox_status AJAX action accepts attacker-controlled name and checkbox_status values and writes them as arbitrary WordPress options without a capability check. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to set default_role to administrator, enabling creation of new administrator accounts; forged requests additionally require interaction by a logged-in user.
