Root command execution via client-side upload validation
Published Jul 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in HiBy R3 Pro firmware 1.5 through 1.7 allows remote attackers to execute operating-system commands as root. The index.js upload check validates extensions only in client-side JavaScript, while the web interface accepts a tampered request and permits the uploaded file to be moved and renamed over a system shell script. The device's HTTP file server must be reachable, and the replaced script executes when the associated Wi-Fi action runs.
