Site takeover via missing REST capability check
Published Jul 21, 2022 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Missing authorization in Shortcode Addons 3.0.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to modify arbitrary WordPress site options. The permission_callback on the ShortCodeAddonsUltimate/v2/ REST API endpoint fails to enforce a capability check before accepting option changes. An unauthenticated network request reaching the endpoint can alter security-sensitive settings and enable complete site takeover.
