Add-on downgrade via unchecked update package version
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper version verification in Firefox before 102 allows remote attackers to downgrade an add-on through a tampered update manifest. The add-on update downloader accepts a package whose embedded version does not match the version selected from the update manifest. The attack requires control of the manifest server and user interaction, and its bounded result is installation of an older add-on release.
