Code execution via improper SMM buffer verification
Published Mar 16, 2023 · Updated Feb 26, 2025
Improper SMM communication-buffer verification in Dell PowerEdge BIOS allows local users with high privileges to execute code or interrupt service. Dell identifies the locus only as SMM communication-buffer verification and does not disclose the affected handler, malformed input, or incorrect validation operation. Exploitation requires local high privileges; successful abuse crosses the firmware security boundary to run arbitrary code or cause a service interruption.
