Buffer access with an incorrect length in Dell Alienware m17 R5 BIOS before 1.2.2 allows local users with administrator privileges to read SMRAM data. The affected BIOS operation accepts input larger than its expected buffer length and exposes certain sections of SMRAM. Local execution and administrator privileges are required, and the published consequence is limited to disclosure of those protected memory sections.
