CVE-2022-3437Network attack vector

Authenticated service interruption via Heimdal GSSAPI overflow

Published Jan 12, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in Samba allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service through a maliciously small GSSAPI packet. Heimdal's DES and Triple-DES unwrap_des() and unwrap_des3() routines perform a length-limited write past malloc-allocated heap memory during decryption. Exposure requires Samba 4.0 or later compiled with internal Heimdal Kerberos; builds using system MIT Kerberos do not contain the vulnerable code.
