CVE-2022-34356

Root privilege escalation through undisclosed kernel flaw

Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Privilege escalation in IBM AIX 7.1 through 7.3 and PowerVM Virtual I/O Server 3.1 allows local users to obtain root privileges. The affected bos.mp64 fileset contains the flaw in the AIX kernel, but IBM has not disclosed the erroneous kernel operation or input that triggers it. A non-privileged local account is required, and successful exploitation yields full root control of the affected logical partition.
