Secure Boot bypass via trusted custom installer
Published Aug 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Secure Boot bypass in New Horizon Datasys bootloaders before 2022-06-01 allows local users to execute unsigned pre-boot code. The signed shdloader.efi bootloader accepts a custom installer and loads its code without preserving the Secure Boot trust boundary. Exploitation requires privileged access to replace the loader on the EFI System Partition or access to boot external media, enabling pre-OS persistence and defense evasion.
