Stored XSS via unsanitized cached generator fields
Published Dec 9, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Stored XSS in Yii2 Gii 2.2.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in another user’s browser via generator fields. Gii caches unsanitized values from fields such as Message Category and Author Name when Preview is pressed, then injects them into the DOM on later visits. Exploitation requires access to Gii and a later page visit; remote access is denied by default unless the source IP is allowed.
