CVE-2022-34292Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via DataFolder symlink overwrite

Published Apr 27, 2023 · Updated Jan 31, 2025

Arbitrary file overwrite in Docker Desktop for Windows before 4.6.0 allows local users to replace files via a crafted DataFolder path. The hyperv/create dockerBackendV2 API accepts an attacker-controlled DataFolder for DockerDesktop.vhdx and follows a crafted link to an unintended file. Low-privileged local access is required, and successful exploitation can replace any file writable by the privileged backend, enabling privilege escalation or service disruption.
