Client request failure via inverted URI bounds
Published Jul 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
URI parsing in Caddy 2.5.1 allows administrators to trigger a client request failure through a malformed rewrite URI. The rewrite function in modules/caddyhttp/rewrite/rewrite.go places the query start after its end and slices the invalid bounds. Reachability requires administrator-supplied configuration with a fragment before a query; the maintainer classifies the behavior as a bug because it returns an empty client reply without interrupting the server.
