Process crash via invalid typed-array value conversion
Published Jul 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in NGINX njs 0.7.5 allows attackers able to modify trusted JavaScript to crash the njs process with a crafted script. During Uint16Array construction, njs_typed_array_alloc passes a value altered through a valueOf callback to njs_value_to_number, which performs an invalid read near the null page. Exploitation requires modification of JavaScript loaded as trusted configuration; the proof of concept demonstrates process termination, not data access or code execution.
