Memory disclosure via invalid await state
Published Jul 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Nginx NJS v0.7.4 allows remote attackers to disclose memory or interrupt service via crafted JavaScript. The njs_vmcode_interpreter function returned directly from an await instruction on error, leaving an invalid return slot that njs_scope_value dereferenced during subsequent execution. Exploitation requires NJS to execute the crafted script; nginx normally loads JavaScript through trusted js_import configuration, so deployments that do not import attacker-controlled code are not reachable through this path.
