CVE-2022-33981Public exploit

Local denial of service via floppy driver use-after-free

Published Jun 18, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Denial of service in Linux kernel before 5.17.6 allows local users to crash systems via a concurrency use-after-free in the floppy driver. The raw_cmd_ioctl function frees raw_cmd while seek_interrupt can still access it through floppy_ready or start_motor, producing a kernel use-after-free. Reaching the ioctl requires local access to a floppy device and suitable privileges; successful races crash the kernel, with no confidentiality or integrity impact reported.
