CVE-2022-33977Network attack vector

Service interruption via recursive XML entity expansion

Published Jul 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

XML entity expansion in Christian Stefanescu untangle 1.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt a service via crafted XML. The parse function creates a standard SAX parser that expands recursively defined DTD entities without a resource bound, allowing crafted entity graphs to exhaust memory or CPU. The affected library must parse attacker-controlled XML, and the reported consequence is limited to service interruption.
