Gateway crash via attacker-controlled log format string
Published Oct 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Format string injection in Abode Systems iota All-In-One Security Kit 6.9X and 6.9Z allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via XML. ghome_process_control_packet extracts attacker-controlled a and id values from an XCMD received over UDP port 55050, builds a log message, and passes that message directly as the format argument to the variadic log wrapper around vsnprintf. No authentication or user interaction is required; exploitation can crash the gateway or alter memory, while disclosed output is visible only through a physically connected UART console.
