CVE-2022-33936

Root code execution via restore path traversal

Published Jul 7, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Path traversal in Dell Cloud Mobility for Dell Storage 1.3.0 and earlier allows attackers to execute code as root via a restore tar file. The restore process fails to reject absolute paths and dot-dot segments in tar entry names, allowing archive contents to escape the intended destination. Adjacent-network access and user interaction are required; successful exploitation writes attacker-chosen files outside the restore path and yields full system takeover.
