SMRAM corruption via IdeBusDxe DMA race
Published Nov 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 30, 2025
Memory corruption in InsydeH2O's IdeBusDxe driver allows local users with high privileges to corrupt SMRAM through DMA transactions. Its software SMI handler checks an input buffer before use, allowing a concurrent DMA write to change that buffer between validation and consumption. Exploitation requires privileged local access and control of DMA timing; successful exploitation corrupts protected system-management memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
