Unauthenticated code execution via widget instance deserialization
Published Oct 31, 2022 · Updated May 6, 2025
PHP object injection in LearnPress before 4.1.7.2 allows remote attackers to execute code through the unauthenticated widgets REST endpoint. The endpoint base64-decodes the JSON instance value and unserializes the resulting attacker-controlled object after validating its supplied hash. Exploitation requires knowledge of site secrets to produce the wp_hash() value and a suitable gadget chain; without a gadget, the proof demonstrates object instantiation.
