Stored script execution via unsanitized SVG attachments
Published Sep 29, 2022 · Updated May 20, 2025
Stored XSS in InvenTree before 0.8.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in other users' browsers via SVG uploads. The attachment save path stores SVG content without sanitizing script elements, allowing uploaded markup to execute when served to another user's browser. Exploitation requires permission to upload an attachment and a separate user to open it; the resulting script can read or modify data available to that user's session but does not execute code on the server.
