Unauthorized controller operation via replayed authentication
Published Jul 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Capture-replay authentication bypass in Omron NJ/NX controllers, Sysmac Studio, and NA terminals allows remote attackers to access controllers. The communications connection process accepts captured authentication exchanges when replayed instead of ensuring that each login exchange is fresh. Exploitation requires observing traffic between a controller and Sysmac Studio or an NA terminal, after which the attacker can log in and operate the controller without authorization.
