Root command execution via unchecked wireless key
Published Oct 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
OS command injection in Abode iota firmware 6.9X and 6.9Z allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through XCMD testWifiAP. The do_test_wifi function inserts WL_DefaultKeyID into an OS command without neutralization or validation and passes the result to popen. Exploitation requires WL_AuthMode to be SHARED or WEP and a malicious key value to be configured before the XCMD arrives; commands run with root privileges.
