Local SYSTEM code execution via permissive installer directory
Published Jul 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Incorrect permissions in Trend Micro VPN 5.2.1026 and earlier allow local users to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. The product installer assigns overly permissive access to a key directory; public advisories do not identify the directory or the privileged operation that consumes it. Exploitation requires the ability to run low-privileged code locally and results in arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM.
