Process crash via shadowed comprehension function
Published Jun 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in Open Policy Agent before 0.42.0 allows remote attackers to crash a compiling process with crafted Rego input. In ast/compile.go, a comprehension body can shadow a function called from its head, causing Expr.Operator to assert an ast.Ref from an ast.Var and panic during compilation. Exploitation requires an application to compile attacker-controlled Rego; the recovered panic is re-raised, terminating the hosting process without reported data disclosure or modification.
