Code execution via off-by-one WAV cue write
Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in libsndfile 1.1.0 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code or crash an application via a crafted WAV file. The wav_read_header function writes cue-point fields at index 100 into a fixed SF_CUE_POINT[100] array because its boundary check accepts one element too many. A user or calling application must open the malicious audio file; successful exploitation can corrupt memory, terminate the process, or execute code.
