CVE-2022-33021Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Invalid counter result via out-of-range RTL read

Published Jun 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in CVA6 commit 909d85a allows attackers to obtain an unknown value by reading the MHPMCOUNTER30 register. The CSR register-file logic indexes perf_counter_d with CSR_MHPM_COUNTER_30 even though that index lies beyond the array range defined in perf_counters.sv. Exploitation requires executing the affected counter read in hardware built from that commit, and the demonstrated consequence is an indeterminate counter result rather than a proven memory disclosure.
