Message spoofing via reflected 404 request path
Published Sep 26, 2022 · Updated May 21, 2025
Content spoofing in IKUS Software Rdiffweb before 2.4.8 allows remote attackers to display chosen messages through crafted 404 URLs. The error_page handler passes CherryPy's path-bearing 404 message into the rendered response instead of replacing it with generic text. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted URL; the demonstrated effect is reflected message spoofing, not script execution or server-side data modification.
