Code execution via malicious installation dependency
Published Jun 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Malicious dependency execution in RootInteractive 0.0.5 through 0.0.19b0 allows attackers to steal secrets and execute code. Affected releases cause pip to retrieve the malicious PyPI package named request as an installation dependency, introducing attacker-controlled code through the package supply chain. The documented path requires installation from an index or mirror that still serves request; public records do not disclose the dependency's internal malicious functions.
