Code execution via malicious request dependency
Published Jun 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Malicious dependency inclusion in django-navbar-client 0.9.50 through 1.0.1 allows attackers to execute code via the request package. Affected releases cause pip to install the malicious request package, but public records do not disclose the dependency’s code-execution routine. Installing an affected release from a package index that still serves request is the gate; execution exposes sensitive data and cryptocurrency keys and permits privilege escalation.
