Backup disclosure via attacker-chosen destination
Published Nov 1, 2022 · Updated May 6, 2025
Incorrect permissions in Apple iOS and iPadOS before 15.7 or at 16.0 allow local users to read device backups through a paired Mac. AppleMobileBackup accepts an attacker-chosen root directory, placing a full backup outside the TCC-protected MobileSync directory. A device must be connected to a trusted Mac, and the exposed backup can contain photos, contacts, and other private data.
