Kernel code execution via GPU driver memory corruption
Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025
Memory corruption in Apple GPU drivers before macOS Monterey 12.5, tvOS 15.6, and watchOS 8.7 allows local users to execute kernel code. The drivers insufficiently validate app-controlled data before an out-of-bounds write corrupts kernel memory; Apple has not disclosed the affected routine or buffer. A user must run a crafted app, after which successful exploitation grants kernel privileges and can compromise the device.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
