Kernel code execution via out-of-bounds write
Published Aug 24, 2022 · Updated May 29, 2025
An out-of-bounds write in the Apple kernel on macOS, tvOS, and watchOS allows local users with root access to execute kernel code. Apple has not disclosed the affected kernel routine or the memory operation that permits the out-of-bounds write, stating only that improved memory handling addressed the issue. Exploitation requires an application already running with root privileges and can cross the remaining boundary into arbitrary execution with kernel privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
