Local privilege escalation via incorrect display bounds check
Published Dec 5, 2022 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek's display component on Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The display component applies an incorrect bounds check before a memory write, allowing data to be written beyond the intended buffer. Exploitation requires System execution privileges on an affected chipset, needs no user interaction, and can obtain additional local privileges.
