Local privilege escalation via buffer-size miscalculation
Published Dec 5, 2022 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Buffer overflow in throttling on affected MediaTek chipsets running Android 11.0 or 12.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The throttling component miscalculates a destination buffer's size and copies input beyond the allocated boundary. Exploitation requires System execution privileges but no user interaction; the resulting out-of-bounds write crosses a privilege boundary.
