CVE-2022-3261

Credential disclosure via unredacted update command logging

Published Sep 15, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024

Plaintext password storage in Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16.2 allows local users to read credentials from system logs after an overcloud update. Update components write complete virsh, redis-cli, and MySQL command lines containing secret values to /var/log/messages instead of redacting them. Exploitation requires high local privileges and an update run; the reported consequence is credential disclosure without data modification or service interruption.
