System privilege escalation via faulty bounds check
Published Dec 5, 2022 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek Widevine on Android 10.0 through 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to gain elevated privileges. Widevine applies an incorrect bounds check before writing to a buffer, allowing data to be written beyond the intended boundary. Exploitation requires local System execution privileges but no user interaction, and successful exploitation elevates the executing context.
