CVE-2022-32579Public exploit

Firmware code execution via untrusted NVRAM pointer

Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated Feb 10, 2025

Improper initialization in Intel NUC Laptop Kit firmware before BC0076 allows physically proximate attackers with privileges to escalate access. During S3 resume, the SbPei end-of-PEI notifier trusts AmiCspGlobalNvsPtrVar as a pointer and writes a fixed byte to that address. Exploitation requires privileged physical access to rewrite SPI-flash NVRAM and can execute code during PEI, expose memory, or inject SMRAM.
