SMRAM code execution via malformed SMI input
Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated May 16, 2025
Improper input validation in Dell Precision Tower BIOS allows local users to execute arbitrary code in SMRAM via an SMI. The BIOS does not properly validate input supplied through the SMI path before processing it in System Management Mode. Exploitation requires authenticated high-privilege local access and high-complexity conditions, and it crosses into protected SMRAM.
