Code execution via unvalidated BMP header fields
Published Jul 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap overflow in AutoTrace 0.40.0 allows attackers to execute code or crash the process by inducing a user to open a crafted BMP image. ReadImage trusts BMP header fields and writes decoded pixel data without checking that the declared contents fit its internal heap buffer. User interaction is required, and the resulting corruption is confined to the privileges and lifetime of the AutoTrace process.
