Privilege escalation via user management configuration
Published Jun 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper access control in OPSWAT MetaDefender server products allows remote authenticated users to gain administrative privileges. MetaDefender Core before 5.1.2, MetaDefender ICAP before 4.12.1, and MetaDefender Email Gateway Security before 5.6.1 permit user-management commands above a non-admin account's assigned role. Exploitation requires valid low-privilege product credentials and an OMS_CSRF_TOKEN, and it enables harmful administrative actions within the service.
