Root code execution via hostname command injection
Published Jun 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Command injection in the REST API of StarWind SAN & NAS 0.2 build 1914 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. The hostname-change command passes its unchecked hostname parameter directly into a Bash script, allowing attacker-controlled data to reach the shell. Non-root user access is sufficient, and injected commands execute with root privileges without user interaction.
