Authenticated privilege escalation via user-profile mass assignment
Published Sep 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in Budibase before 1.3.20 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite protected account attributes. The updateSelf controller merges the entire request body into the stored user record instead of restricting updates to approved profile fields. Any signed-in user who can reach the self-update route can change authorization-bearing fields, gaining elevated access to application data and administrative operations.
