Private-thread disclosure via NoSQL query injection

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 22, 2025

NoSQL injection in Rocket.Chat before 5.0 allows remote authenticated users to read private thread messages through chat.getThreadsList. The endpoint places unsanitized request values into a MongoDB query, allowing crafted query input to broaden the threads returned. A valid low-privileged session is required, and the documented consequence is limited to unauthorized message disclosure.
